When The Psychic is Wrong…

…or is it?

Even Nostradamus had his off days.  It’ll happen.

Now, we all know and accept that there’s no way that every psychic can read for every client.  It’s energetically implausible.  That’s like saying every driver can drive any vehicle or every archer will hit the bulls-eye every time.

Would be nice, but there’s that whole “reality” thing…

We’re human and as long as we’re human, nothing will ever be perfect.  But, that doesn’t mean imperfection’s any fun.  For example, here is a general illustration of a professional psychic’s plausible nightmare:

PSYCHIC: Hi, thanks for calling!  What’s on your mind tonight?

CALLER: I wanna know about my relationship.

PSYCHIC: Sure, let’s throw some cards down [simple 3-card spread / strong empathic connection; 5 of Cups, King of Pents, 8 of Cups] Ooh looks like there may be some insecurity here —

CALLER: No.

PSYCHIC: (pause) No?  Hmm…well, I’ve got the 5 of cups, King of Pents, and the 8 of —

CALLER: — What’s that mean?

PSYCHIC: I’ll be happy to explain.  Basically, the 5 of cups indicates disappointment or worry —

CALLER: I’m not worried.  I don’t know what you’re talking about, this doesn’t sound like me at all.

At this point in the reading, the psychic is thinking, “Aw, crap!” because he/she realizes that the reading is at a very vulnerable juncture. (He or she is also may be thinking, “Well, if you weren’t concerned about your relationship, why are you calling?”)  Regardless how the reading ends at this point, the psychic’s reputation is gonna get hit either way: If the reading ends well, our brilliance will be praised because hopefully the session will be an overall experiential success.  If not, all of the client’s friends and their friends are going to be told how badly we suck.

The worst thing we can do is get defensive!  A lot of us are very sensitive (Cancer, party of one right here!) and territorial about our craft because it’s a touchy line of work.  We are constantly balancing our abilities, faith, and integrity on the edge of a knife all the time, every day.  One slip, depending on the client, we can be scarred.  But, experience, practice, and constant learning are the best remedies for the challenges.

“Grace” is a key word that I’m still personally trying to become better acquainted with, but, sometimes it’s like trying to teach a biker how to do ballet in his boots.

The truth is, if there’s an unmistakable connection — meaning that there is little or no doubt that the answer is coming from an outside source, not internal — but the client is insisting that we’re way off base, then we may need to consider some possibilities before we proceed:

1 – The client’s lying to us.  They usually won’t.  A large majority of callers and clients see spiritual advisers because they’re open, not the other way around.  But every once in a while, you’ll get someone who thinks they’re sassy and will tell you you’re wrong while continuing their session with you so they can complain and get their money back after they got their answers or just to test you.  If this is the case, it’s best to address it as tactfully as possible.  “Hey, don’t bullshit a psychic,” may sound great on a bumper sticker, but I don’t think a paying client would appreciate it.

2 – We’re picking up the energy from a 3^rd party.  Now, it’s possible in this illustration that the disappointment may not be on the client’s behalf, but can very well be on the partner’s behalf.  Best way to determine that, I’ve found what works best for me (cuz everyone is different), is to simply ask for the partner’s first name and see what tunes in.  Lay some more cards down to confirm, or generally do your thing and take it from there.

3 – We’re picking up the past that’s not dealt with or a fear of what’s to come.  In this case, really tune in directly with your client.  You know your deck, guide, or system better than anyone else, so you’ll be told pretty clearly if this may be what you’re up against.

4 – We’re wrong.  Hmmm, let’s see…Have we meditated today?  Did we deal with our stuff, clean our cards, smudge our space, cast a circle, say our prayers, do our rituals, or anything else we usually (should) do before we bring outsiders into our sacred space for our services?  No?  You forgot?  Oh, Whoo ha!  You’re in for a ride, then baby!!  Can’t help ya, you’re on your own.  Good luck.

SO!  The important thing is not to panic.  There’s an explanation for everything and as I said, it happens to everyone.  It doesn’t mean you suck, it just means your radio’s on a different frequency than your client’s.  Remember, most of us are tuned in to the truth.  It’s hard when the client doesn’t want to hear the truth or is anticipating a confirmation that’s a real long shot. (“When is he gonna leave his wife?  We’ve been having an affair for 10 years and he still won’t leave her. I think it’ll be soon,” kinda thing).

If you’re the psychic, just work through it.  Use your tools – crystals, cards, runes, what have you, to get you on track.  You’re the professional, you know you’ve got a strong eye and a sharp gift, just trust it to get the answers.  In this case, also trust that it’ll lead you to a successful outcome for the highest good, as well.

Now, if you’re wrong more often than not, then there may be a much more serious issue to contend with and I would lovingly recommend stepping back from working for a little while. Don’t be too proud to bring in some outside help, either.  No one can wear the red cape all the time and not get weighed down…

If you’re the client, please be patient and give the psychic a chance.  If he/she starts probing you to death (asking too many questions, fishing for details), then you may wanna connect with someone else.  But, more often than not, they’re picking up on something you didn’t anticipate.

Oh, and PS…lying to a psychic?  *shaking my head*  Nuh-uh…
